Before starting PrEP, we test for HIV (4th generation), kidney function (creatinine/eGFR), urinalysis, hepatitis A, B, and C, syphilis, chlamydia, and gonorrhea. While on PrEP, you need bloodwork every 3 months to maintain your prescription — this monitors your kidney function, HIV status, and common STIs. Lab requisitions are sent digitally and can be taken to any Alberta lab. Throat and rectal swab testing should be specifically requested at the lab when you arrive. No news from our team means your results are normal.
